Dinner Theater #4

Filed In Thoughts

Two and a half years ago, in anticipation of starting Winkbox and knowing I would no longer be receiving a steady paycheck, I got a job waiting tables. This is a continuation of a series of blogs documenting my adventures in the food service industry. Previous entries: Dinner Theater #1, Dinner Theater #2, Dinner Theater #3.

Apple Seeds #3

Filed In Design Photography Tech Apple

This is a continuation of a series documenting the building of the newest Apple server farm, just a stones throw away from the Winkbox North office.

Since Apple is moving faster then I can find the time to blog, I have combined my shoot from September 30th, October 13th and October 22nd in this blog. Things are changing fast and it looks like someone is trying to block my view by planting some bushes - so not cool.

Smokin’

Filed In Art

On my recent visit to Chicago, I madly searched for an original, meaningful, yet inexpensive gift for John’s birthday. While visiting The Chicago Cultural Center I found a treasure chest of gift possibilities in the Art-o-mat.

Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines converted to vend art. Each slot carries an original, hand made piece of art that fits in a 2” x 3” x 1” box (a cigarette box). The artwork varies from tiny paintings, photographs, jewelry to sculpture and soap. There are more then 400 contributing artists from 10 countries and no two pieces are alike.

The idea started in 1997 by Clark Whittington in the cigarette capital of the world, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. And when you see the Art-o-mat you will think to yourself “damn, I wish I thought of that!"

Find an Art-o-mat machine near you.

Apple seeds #2

This is a continuation of a series documenting the building of the newest Apple server farm, just a stones throw away from the Winkbox North office.

This undercover photo shoot wasn’t without its adrenaline rush. My car almost got stuck in the mud but once again my four wheel drive Subaru saved the day and I was able to escape without notice, unless of course someone followed the muddy tracks.

The Jungle

Filed In Design

I recently finished The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. I was so inspired by the story I planned a visit to The Special Collections and Preservation Division at the Harold Washington Chicago Public Library just to look at the original photos from the Chicago stock yards. It was such a cool experience, I got to wear the white gloves, that I was not quite ready to let go of my new obsession.

So most recently, I worked on a sandbox project and designed my own cover for The Jungle. I quickly discovered there are MANY covers out there, a few good ones, but I thought the world could probably use a few more prototypes.

All images used to create these mockup designs are comps from gettyimages.com
