The Hickory Museum of Art turns 65 this year and to commemorate the event they rebranded. The new logo was designed by Michael Vanderbyl, a famous west coast designer who over 26 years ago designed the original logo for Hickory Business Furniture among many others.

Usually this wouldn’t be noteworthy, rebranding happens all the time, but I love this small museum that is hidden in the back streets of a small town. Instead of being in a flashy new building, it’s housed in a remodeled high school gymnasium. It has many great exhibits and openings each year, it’s free and it’s kid friendly.

While I would love to have this client, I think it was a great move on the part of a small museum to get a famous designer like Michael Vanderbyl to revamp their logo. Besides getting a great logo, they showed their respect for great design and the logo will represent the museum well for another 65 years.
